As of this posting, you now have 13 days left until Valentines day.  If you have a manga lover in your life and you haven’t gotten him or her that special gift yet, now would be the time.  Fortunately, there are a myriad of genres and themes available for you to get the manga otaku that makes your heart beat faster.

For Girls

1. Absolute Boyfriend
   • A perfect gift for the otaku girl who has had some bad luck with love.  The heroine, Riiko, acquires an android lover purely by accident and has to hide the fact from friends and others that her new boyfriend isn’t human. 
2. Toradora
   • One of my favorites, either in anime or manga, even though I’m a guy.  Takasu Ryuuji, a high school student who scares almost everyone he meets because of his ’scary eyes’ meets Aisaka Taiga, a fierce and tiny classmate with a crush on a mutual friend.  Ryuuji offers to help her get the guy she likes in exchange for help from her in winning over the girl he likes. 
3. Densha Otoko (Train Man)
   • This story, based on a book, based on a conversation held on 2chan is part of what helped change the image of otaku in Japan from antisocial psychopaths to sensitive and lonely people.  A must read for any otaku, male or female.

For Guys

1. Ghost in the Shell
   • A cyberpunk classic.  Motoko Kusanagi leads the anti-terrorist government organization known as ‘Section 9’ in the near future. 
2. How To Be An Anime Character
   • This is not manga but tell me that there’s not an otaku out there who doesn’t wonder what it would be like to be one of the characters in their favorite anime?  I haven’t read this book, so if anyone has, I’d love to know what you thought.
3. Battle Royale Ultimate Edition
   • Anyone who has seen the Japanese film “Battle Royale” can’t help but be changed by the story of a class of seventh graders forced to kill each other.  This particular manga is based on the lives of the individual characters in the story.  A must read.

Alright, you now have an idea of what to buy your lovergeek.  Don’t take my words lightly people.  There isn’t much time until Valentines day.  Now git!
