About

The Otakuologist studies Otakuology, which in turn is a study of the Otaku and the Otaku mentality.

What is Otaku?  Here in the states, Otaku would be the nerdiest of the nerdy.  Think “Revenge of the Nerds” nerdy.  However, while there are American Ota, the purpose of this site is to bring the awareness of the Japanese Ota to the American mentality.

Otaku love, love their hobby, although hobby might not be a good word for it.  Obsession is a better one.  They’re passionate about it.  Otaku passions can run from anime and manga to trains and voice actresses.  If there’s a hobby, you can bet that you’ll find an Otaku lurking around somewhere.Tokyo_Akihabara_Otaku_goods

If you love anime so much that you’re willing to spend money you don’t have on DVD’s and character figures you really don’t need just so you can place them on shelves and display cases, you’re an Otaku.  Yes, you.  Don’t look around, I’m talking to you.

In Tokyo, the Otaku holy land is Akihabara or Akiba for short.  In Akiba, an Otaku can find anything he needs to satisfy his particular passion.  Figures, electronics or just about anything else can be found there.

This site is for Otaku mainly, but if you simply love something enough to have a momento or two (hundred) displayed around your room, you’ll find a home here as well.  If you love Japan stick around, you’ll find something you like.
